Republicans got their Mushroom Cloud over West, Texas

Facing clear evidence of peril, we cannot wait for the final proof -- the smoking gun -- that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud. - George W(orst President Ever) Bush 10/07/2002

Republicans are the servile lapdogs of Corporate Monsters. The Death Toll from the West, Texas Explosion is currently 14 with a hundred injured and millions of dollars of damage to property.

Why? Because the Fertilizer Plant was allowed to operate for years without Government Oversight. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security requires fertilizer plants and depots to disclose amounts of ammonium nitrate, which can be used to make a bomb, above 400 lbs. The West, Texas plant, West Fertilizer, reportedly held 270 tons of the substance, 1,350 times that limit.
"Somebody has to tell the E.P.A. that we don’t need you monkeying around and fiddling around and getting in our business with every kind of regulation you can dream up,” he said. “You’re doing nothing more than killing jobs. It’s a cemetery for jobs at the E.P.A." - Texas Governor Rick Perry.
With the area a disaster zone do you think Texas Senator Ted Cruz is going to vote against federal disaster relief funds as he did for the victims of Hurricane Sandy? No Ted Cruz like Rick Perry is one of those disgusting men who belong to the I Got Mine, Fuck You Class.

But, this explosion isn't a natural disaster it's a man-made disaster. Or more acurately, since Republicans aren't men; a Right-Wing Disaster.

Republicans and their conservative dupes are advancing the Destruction of The United States so they can institutue a Neo-Feudalist Wage Slave State.

If Dims had a clue they would use the Perry quote 24/7.

That will NOT happen.

Good on you for posting that.

In the mind of the deranged conservative, deaths from the lack of oversight are just like deaths from the lack of background checks -- collateral damage in the defense of freedom.

Yet, they support the Patriot Act!

This factory got fined long long ago I think from OSHA, whoever it was, the fine was a rip-roaring stinging $2,100 for not sending in years of paperwork. That's a bargain any two bit businessman is going to take, do nothing, pay the little fine if caught.

"Whether it’s the EPA, the FDA, the FCC, the SEC, the CFTC, you name it, there is an acronym for a federal agency causing harm right now. We’re trying to pull that in." - Eric Cantor

Republicans believe that No Business can ever be wrong because while Corporations are People when it comes to Money they are amorphous non-entities when it comes to the crimes, death and destruction they cause.

4,600 people die on the job every year in the United States. When do you think the government will send out 9,000 police to deal with that?

But no, the people running the country will go on claiming to believe in something that is as imaginary as the Easter Bunny- the notion that "market forces," i.e. greed, will somehow induce businesses to give a damn about what happens to their employees. And the higher unemployment is, the easier it is to replace them when they malfunction.

G. Eagle,

By claiming the Invisible Hand is at Operation the Evil and Negligent Actions of BP in the Gulf or Massey Energy or Bain Capital or West Fertilizer can be passed off as "Natural".

And yes Corporations view Labor as an unnecessary expense.

Business Leaders would have 100% employment if they could pay Americans Zero.

Grung_e_Gene,

If, as you claim, corporations view labor as an unnecessary expense then logic would dictate that corporations would stop paying for labor. The fact that corporations are still paying for labor proves your statement false.

What happened in West, TX was a horrible industrial accident.

The worst (and best hidden) part of this story is that most of the fertilizer manufactured at the West Fertilizer Company was not intended to fertilize feed crops but was intended to help grow fuel crops.

Yeah, if it weren't for the environmental push for more green fuels this 'accident' may never have happened at all.

Dear Lemmings,
Anyone bother to verify this claim of "no oversight?

If so, you would have observed the MANY government inspections that have been scrutinized and published online for a week now - including every violation large & small and what the plant did to remedy each.

But you probably just took this fool's word for it and jumped on his hate-wagon for a baseless witch hunt. Don't be surprised when you find yourselves as the target of the real witch hunts. Oh, in case you don't know, the Elite prefer to call you "Zombies" and joke about how clueless you are and confident you won't challenge what BS they feed you - especially ur assumption they are even partisan.

This blog conversation is proof you're all too enamored by your perceived wisdom to verify the facts before spewing venom and feeling so righteous about following liars. But hey, more of you ignorant sitting ducks just buy more time for those of us with open eyes to save ourselves. Good luck to you!

Dear Rusty Baker Waco Texas,

“The Texas plant that was the scene of a deadly explosion this week was last inspected by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in 1985.”

“There are no federal rules mandating that such plants be located away from residential areas, and the current company safety plans aren’t always shared widely with residents nearby.”

“[West Fertilizer Co.] has been cited for a series of violations over the past few years. The U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration on June 12 ordered the company to pay $5,250 for improperly planning to transport anhydrous ammonia. …

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency conducted an inspection of the risk management plan at the plant in 2006, and found a number of deficiencies, including that the company was two years late filing the document.”

“Texas environmental regulators investigated the facility seven times between 2002 and 2007. An odor complaint in June 2006 triggered an inspection that resulted in a notice of violation for operating without a required air permit.”

“Lobbying groups for these plants say the risks are limited and they now face a panoply of regulations and oversight.”

Your comment proves that there are no end to evil people who are willing to sacrifice the lives of poor people for Corporate Profits.

Do the world a favor and go breathe in some anhyrdous ammonia.

No it doesn't. It only proves that corporations have not yet succeeded in beating people down to the point where they are willing to work for food and a slave shack.

Don't worry. They're working on it.

I would just like to say that Jerry Critter brought up an excellent point that I've pondered ever since gun control debates after Newtown.
So the Second Amendment should be untouchable in the opinion of some people. But the same people could care less about the rights afforded to them in Amendments 4-8. Patriot Act? I just don't understand some people.

Jerry Critter said...

Conservatives tend to be very inconsistent.

J.O.B. said...

I hear ya Jerry. But I would say that the inconsistencies tend to run in both parties.

Jerry Critter said...

Perhaps it is my own personal bias, but I don't see it as often in the Democrats.

In Gene's response to R Baker of Wacko Texas, he said

"Your comment proves that there are no end to evil people who are willing to sacrifice the lives of poor people for Corporate Profits."

I would add that R Baker's comment also proves that there are no end to idiots willing to believe everything that they are told by the Corporate Profiteers.

Also, great ending line Gene!

J.O.B. said...

It's there Jerry, maybe your bias just blinds you. Which is cool, everyone has their own little biases.
But I do agree with you completely regarding the defense of the 2nd Amendment by people who support the Patriot Act.
