Toxic Commentary

The Blame Barack Campaign. Limbaugh and others wasted no time in coming out and declaring Obama is to blame for all things bad ever.
"The Obama recession is in full swing, ladies and gentlemen. Stocks are dying, which is a precursor of things to come. This is an Obama recession. Might turn into a depression." ~ Rush Limbaugh, 3 hours of vitriol 5 days a week.

I can't imagine even the blindest Limbaugh supporters could swallow such a load of bollocks. Except they will and the next four years will be a non-stop campaign to lay the entire blame for the financial meltdown onto Obama.

The financial system is designed to have booms-and-bust. During the Booms the Better Class of America enjoys all the benefits and allows a trickle to flow down onto the mass of people. The Piss Down Your Back and Tell You It's Raining Prosperity. And during the busts, well the losses are thrust upon the people to absorb.

Meanwhile, the flow of Obama is Hitler continues. And the Obama=Hitler theory isn't advanced by some crazy individual using YouTube but stated by a member of the Federal Government.

"That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did," Broun said. "When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist." - Rep Paul Broun, who stands behind his comments. You see, Obama is exactly like Hitler and the Soviet Union.

Well, no, no he isn't he isn't and I don't know what to think of your mental process if you can equate the two so easily.

But, the problem is the Toxic rhetoric has been emanating steadily during the years long election cycle. Media Matters has compiled some of the more noteworthy examples of conservative radio hosts' and their guests' attacks on Obama and, more generally, attacks against others in the context of the 2008 election.

What does it all mean? I don't know. People are wont to exaggerate and hyperbole. But, I think the constant invective spewing forth from Limbaugh, Cunningham, Hannity et al is at least a causal factor.
