"I've hurt you... And I wish to go on... hurting you." - RepubliKhan, Star Trek IINothing angers American Conservatives more than success. Right-Wingers embrace failure and proclaim it to be a Wild Success. They still claim W's Iraq Fiasco was a stunning success.
It's been 55 years since a Republican President did anything for the American people or championed any successful policies. That was President Dwight D. Eisenhower. But, it's also been 55 years since President Ike instituted sanctions and an economic embargo on Cuba. And they haven't worked.
But, the reason Conservatives supported the failed sanctions against Cuba was because they enjoyed hurting Cubans. Recall that during the Bush/Cheney debacle in Iraq, Bill O'Reilly, Faux News and every warmongering chicken hawk conservative did not care, whatsoever how many, innocent Iraqis died because to conservatives every Iraqi was somewhat complicit with Saddam Hussein. So, it doesn't matter to conservatives how many innocent Cubans have been harmed by the failed Embargo.
Of course, Cuban expats have reasons to hate Fidel Castro. Fidel's enemies were dealt with harshly. But, it's not as if Awesome America was not in league with brutal regimes while we condemned Castro. The Shah of Iran and Augusto Pinochet in Chile were at least as vicious and oppressive as Castro's Cuba, if not more than so.
But, conservatives love harming people as a way of changing their minds and attitudes. This is why we find conservatives so supportive of torture. It doesn't matter if Torture elicited real intel it's the infliction of pain with which they agree.
But, fortunately for the United States and President Obama we have friends around the world to offset the homegrown domestic traitors of the Republican Party. So, with the aid of the Canadian Government and Pope Francis' Vatican, President Obama has normalized US-Cuba Relations.
Pope Francis, whom conservatives hate, was instrumental in brokering the deal, having personally contacting both President Obama and President Raul Castro and (along with Canada) hosting critical meeting between the delegations.
The opening up of Diplomatic Relations with Cuba is another brilliant Foreign Policy victory for President Obama, which is yet another reason conservatives are so apoplectic.

Right-wingers, in this country or elsewhere, have an affinity for the powerful, the bombastic, the "tough." They never have empathy for the weak, unless they're of the right skin color. It's why throughout the world, "The Strongman" is invariably a right-wing figure. The more hardbitten and sadistic, the better.
Absolutely, W. Hackwhacker. It's why PBO and Il Papa piss them off so much.
Using Diplomacy? Helping the poor? Aiding the afflicted? Lifting the plight of the downtrodden These concepts are anathema to conservatives.
'Let'em die' -the voice of conservatives in the 2012 elections.
They crave and respect Power alone. As you say the more sadistic the better...
No wonder rightwing "Christians" hate the Pope. He doesn't hate gays, he doesn't think "the only good Commie is one that's dead," he speaks out against greed -- what good is he?
So it begins. The left has stoked the protester class and they have begun executing police officers.
There is a saying, be careful what you wish for because you just may get it.
Congratulations Gene. You and your side have received what you've all wished for.
I hope you'll keep the whining and crying to a minimum when the unintended consequences kick in.
Oh BULLSHIT! For years the Republican Party, their right-wing drones and Mainstream Media Enablers have warned Americans they'd "better watch what they say, watch what they do" while proclaiming President Obama to be an amalgamation of Hitler/Stalin/Mao.
In response, Conservatives and Right-Wing Domestic Terrorists have threatened and murdered Law Enforcement Officers.
Conservatives don't give a shit about police officers. All they see is a chance to advance their agenda, and if that means using the corpses of dead cops then so be it.
