No Time to Terminate the Dark Fate of Life after Ghostbusters but, that's not how the Fast & Furious Force works

You can't go home again or Let dead Demon Dogs lie

So... Ghostbusters was terrible.  Now, this isn't a rant because the little girl was made the prime protagonist.  The directors and producers tried to make her a plucky, gawky, and precocious hero and it was contrived, flat, and unbelievable.  But, there are numerous plot holes big enough to march the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man through in this forced crappy plot and stupid ha-ha homages to the first film but, you know what... who cares?

All of this lays at the feet of the current Studio system and Movie Making process.  There are seemingly only two types of films made by Hollywood studios these days; grotesque billion dollar blockbusters and remakes.  The moderate and mid-sized movie project or non-reboot is fading and seen as too risky; as proved the case with the ill-fated The Last Duel which is going to lose some $50 million dollars.  So, in studio accountants eyes it makes sense to green-light remakes (another version of Little Women perhaps?) or reboots or long delayed sequels and prequels.  Because there is believed to be a natural floor of support or a rabid enough fan-base to make the film profitable.

What no one wants to admit and no Hollywood executive wants to understand or confront is these film franchises (and I'm sure there are others I'm missing) are finished:

  • Jurassic Park
  • Alien
  • Terminator
  • Star Trek
  • Star Wars
  • James Bond
  • Fast & Furious
  • Harry Potter
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
Those films had their day.  They told their stories.  But, like legendary aging athletes their day is done.

Now, maybe I'd be willing to watch films set in those universes; Rogue One, which told a story of characters you never heard of was the "best" film to come out of the Disney Studios Star Wars Era (and it wasn't that good) and the best scene was still Darth Vader murdering Rebel scum.

Films as a story vehicle had their great runs before World War 2 and in the gritty, grimy story telling America post-Vietnam.  There's always been an appetite for serialized content.  From the olden days of radio to the mythical 1930s mini movie series, Americans have loved long form story-telling experiences.  But, we are now in the Era of Serial Television Series, which are afforded greater production value, content latitude, and story telling time which was not available to the sitcoms and soapy dramas of yesteryear.  And now (especially Covid influenced) viewing habits are vastly different; trending towards Binge watching and allowing the watcher to set the time for breaks and intermissions.

Of course, the biggest counter-point to my entire argument is everyone of those remakes, reboots, and sequels is still making big, big bucks for the film studios.  Ghostbusters: Afterlife has made about $185 million thus far on a budget of $80 million.  So, even as individual brick-and-mortar theaters and their parent companies suffer and go bankrupt expect another thoughtless, witless literally juvenile Transformers movie.

Republicans don't like to serve those extra 2/5ths persons

Bartender: "Hey! We don't serve their kind here!"
Luke: "What?"
Bartender: "Your droids. They'll have to wait outside. We don't want them here." ~ Discrimination rears it's ugly head even a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...
Sharron Angle and Ayn Rand Paul are two of the most vocal Republicans to push forward the Republican Party agenda of removing the illegal 2/5ths of a person unconstitutionally added by Liberal activist judges.

The vast majority of conservatives and Republicans are bigots and racists. Every day the Republican Party is exposed for racism which permeates their party. David Bartholomew, the chair of Virginia Beach's Republican party, sent forth a typical racist Republican joke email which is so vile I wont repeat, but you can view it here.

However, more disconcerting than the individual racists who inhabit all levels of the Republican Party and all manners of conservatives is the effort by Tea Party groups to use naked aggression and threats to keep minorities from voting. Here's a sample of Tea Party Tolerance and conservative non-bigotry:
"You liberial scumbags should be hung by the neck in public ! We are on to your voter fraud. Keep it up you MOTHER FUCKERS and you will soon be put down for a long dirt nap! Your nothing but a bunch of white guilt ridden assholes, NIGGERS and greasy mexican spics!
Angle when confronted about her blatantly racist Watch out for the illegal mexican stealing college scholarships from wholesome white peoples campaign videos told the Hispanic crowd they looked a little more Asian to her. Angle sounds a little Ass-ian to me.

Rand Paul is livid that Corporations are not allowed to discriminate based on race or ethnicity and would not have voted for the Civil Rights act. "I don't like the idea of telling private business owners... But at the same time I do believe in private ownership." Paul believes in a Free Market were conservatives are free to tell certain people we don't serve your kind here.

Angle and Paul and so many others in the Republican Party are vile or ignorant racists but Racism is not the driving power behind the party. The real goal is to get these ignorant fiends elected so the Corporate Plutocrats can eliminate all assistance to the poor and Middle Class.

If the Republicans wrest control of Congress in 2010, they are coming for your Social Security. The Republican "Roadmap for America's Future" details plans to steal as much as 50% of Social Security benefits. The Moneyed Masters of the Republican Party have wanted to get their hands on Social Security for years. They want that money flushed into Wall street were they can make it disappear to Switzerland through algorithms and derivatives.

And with Republican victories this year they'll get it...

"But I was going into Tosche Station to pick up some power converters!"

The Scottish Police Force are strong with the, ahem, Force... This must explain the lack of crime in the Northern UK. Frighteningly, that means the Criminal Mastermind of Scotland must be the Most Powerful Sith Lord ever and some new recruit to the Force named Annie will destroy them!

I wish I had been smart or brave enough to demand Jedi on my dog tags when I was in MCRSD. Lamentably, I asked for Atheist (for which I earned some extra PT time!) and was told no, so I settled for No Religious Preference. When I made the FMF and MOL came on line I changed my "religion" to Atheist*.

*- If I recall correctly No Religious Preference was Code 13 and Atheist was Code 75, under the religion tab.
