Don't expect small government conservatives to decry this action. The creation of a MASSIVE database by federal bureaucrats causes them no consternation because conservatives sold their shriveled blackened souls to their Republican Masters long ago. Conservatives will do whatever their Republican Masters want and the Republican Party obeys the 1%.
The 1% wants to destroy the American Dream and the quickest way to do that is to eliminate the franchise for millions of Americans who don't vote right. Trump's tiny right-hand man for this endeavor is the odious Kric Kobach, who sent a demand letter from the Executive Branch to all Secretary of State for all 50 states.
The Plutocracy has always hated expanded voting rights in America because when the American People are offered a choice of what type of government they desire, it is a Democratic Socialist type, with a solid social safety net, dignity for the elderly, assistance for the destitute, access to education and employment, union protections, living wages, public parks and public landmarks, and medical coverage for everyone.
The Republican Party opposses all of these things. The Republicans want this:
A Public Beach used exclusively by Republican Hatchetman Chris Christie |
Together these three enemies of America, conspired to get Donald Trump elected President, because they knew he would enact the right-wing agenda of Oppression, Intolerance and Adulation of the Rich with reckless abandon.
I'm sorry to say my own "blue" state of Maryland is, as of the moment, "undecided" as to whether to cave to Kobach. That's the price for electing a Repub governor who appoints the election commission. It's just outrageous.
ReplyDeleteGovernor Rauner "Mister 1% of the 1%" hasn't weighed in yet as far as I know as he has just suffered a legislative defeat as the Illinois State Republicans decided to vote with Madigan on a budget. But, it's no surprise the Republican identifies with the Confederacy. Republicans hate America. It's voters act as the arch-traitors in the Confederate Army fighting for the rich to own black people and denying themselves and other poor people voting and government rights. This is the exact policy the Republicans are pursing now.
ReplyDeleteWhy does this post have to ring out so true. Well the fact of the matter is that it's all true. We are not wrong you guys.
ReplyDeleteSure as hell not much satisfaction being right these days.
Excellent post, Gene. You've captured the essence of the corporate state in its mission, its agenda, and its action plan. Although resisting this tyranny is seemingly hopeless, we have no choice. As Chris Hedges remarked, "We are like mice, squeaking at an avalanche – but squeak we must!"
ReplyDeleteMay this country's next gaining of independence be celebrated by all, for all, and with true justice and equality of all, and may this new paradigm relegate corporations to their true status as legal instruments -- not the legal fiction of personhood they've gained through reckless court misinterpretations and decisions over the last century-and-a-half.
Everyone...continue the resistance. Keep up the good fight!
So far, 40+ states have resisted to some extent this over-reach, so that's good. I note that Bush's former Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff has a good editorial at Washington Post warning about just this. Also, it looks like Kobach has probably broken the law by asking for the information in the way he has, via a sort of obscure 1980 Paperwork Reduction Act (he's also probably used this ID theft/voter suppression farce for Hatch Act self-promotion--I'd like to see this near-beer Nazi clapped down for something). The problem is, the nature of people who don't respect this country's citizens is they will keep trying it because nothing tells them they can't--until the people let them know they can't. That means clearing the deck of Trump's enablers wherever they hold elected offices.
